The event opened to the public at 12 noon and the site filled by 3.30 pm. Families were seen enjoying the funfair, eating ice-creams and watching the performances on the stage. The performances started with a gatka demonstration by Baba Fateh Singh Gatka Akhara. This was followed by a bhangra performance by Vasda Punjab, giddha and skit by Rani Jago Giddha group, a duet by Rai Shanu and Sukhvir Sodhi, songs by Inderjit London and a group performance by Asli Baharan Punjab Diyan.

Akash Radio MD and Chairman Mela Organising Committee Mr Sukhwinder Singh invited special guests to greet the public. Among those who addressed the gathering included Mr Mayor Pritam Grewal, Ms Seema Malhotra MP, Dr Onkar Sahota GLA and the leader of the Hounslow council Councillor Jagdish Sharma.  All of them lauded Mr Sukhwinder Singh’s effort for holding this annual community event with great success. A special Vaisakhi cake was presented by Mr Kulwinder Kumar Kool Cakes and cut by the VIPs. Refreshments were provided by Mr Baljit Komal of Chandni Chowk and Sukhdev’s Catering.

Also in attendance were Mrs Mayoress Ajmer Grewal, local councillors and businessmen Mr Gurmail Singh Malhi, Baljit Malhi, Singh Sabha Southall trustee Mr Surjit Singh Bilga, Gurdwara Miri Piri Southall general secretaryMr Mohinder Singh Rathour, Gurdwara Miri piri land owner Jathedar Sohan Singh Dhesi, GianiSatnam Singh of Allenby Heating and Plumbing, Mrs Balwinder Kaur Chahal, Dr Meharbaan Singh Kurban, Manpreet Singh Badhnikalan, Mr Kawaljit Singh Khaira from Super Singh’s take away and others.

The entire event was coordinated by Mrs Kamal Preet Kaur and ably supported by Mr Manpreet Singh, Mrs Amardeep Kaur, Mr Sarbjot Singh, Ms Linda Krawecke and security team of Mr Roger Van Cooten.

This Vaisakhi Mela was dedicated to lobbying against the abuse of the system by those in power in India.
